If you don't know your Winter Hardiness Zone please visit one or more of these sites: US and Canada, Alaska, Northern Midwest If you have any interest in comparing the US system to the Canadian system visit Canadian System and Map (Sorry, I don't ship to Canada.) Explanation of the USDA Climate Zone Map: The USDA's zones are based on winter low temperatures. When you read that say Haralson, is rated to zone 3a, this means that it will probably survive many years in most areas rated zone 3a because it is able to withstand at least 40 below under most winter conditions. (35 below for zone 3b). Actual survival depends on many other factors some of which are listed below under "Mini- Climates" Important: if you live in areas with dry winter winds, extremely short seasons, frost pockets, mountainous areas (including mountain valleys or areas at the base of mountains or large hills), extremely cloudy summers or falls, late spring frosts, unusually unpredictable fall frosts, Chinooks, then please read section below entitled: Mini- Climates. . |
